Efficient Microsoft 365 Tenant Migration for a Merged Company

Background

Our client, a recently acquired company with a workforce of 40 users, found themselves in need of migrating their Microsoft 365 environment into the tenant of their new parent company. They had previously consulted another IT firm, which had estimated a project timeline of at least two weeks and a cost of £1000 per day.

Challenge

Migration of a Microsoft 365 environment is a complex task that requires careful planning, especially to ensure data integrity and minimal disruption to everyday business activities. The proposed timeline and costs from the previous IT firm were not satisfactory to the client, and they needed a more efficient, cost-effective solution.

Solution

We carried out a thorough market research to identify the right migration tool for the client’s specific needs. Once we found the suitable tool, we scheduled the migration to take place overnight when the business activities were at their minimum, minimizing the downtime.

The entire migration process, including the careful shifting of mailboxes, OneDrive data, and SharePoint sites, was completed in just one day. This swift execution significantly reduced the potential for disruption and ensured a seamless transition.

Following the successful migration, we also addressed the parent company’s requirement to standardize the usernames across the organization. We updated the usernames of all the users from the acquired company to align with the parent company’s naming convention, providing consistency and simplifying user management.
